Aggregates - Part 2
Course Description:
In Aggregates Part I, we discussed important aggregate properties like size, shape, and texture. In this course, we dig deeper into how we decide which aggregates to use and how much of each aggregate to use in our products. We discuss particle packing and the importance of having the right balance of coarse and fine particles in the mix. Learn how to read a grading curve, and how different curves are used for different products.
After taking this course, learners will understand:
• How aggregate particle packing impacts overall concrete performance
• How to determine an aggregate’s gradations and how to calculate FM
• Why we need coarse and fine particles and what each does in the mix
• How an M curve helps make products with low-absorption and high-durability
• That recommended grading curves are available for pavers, SRW and CMU
