Up to this point in this education track, we have learned about the basic ingredients used to make concrete products including aggregates, cement, pozzolans and water. Another important group of ingredients used in our concrete are admixtures. Have you ever wondered what exactly admixtures do? Find out how admixtures work and how they can help reduce production costs and improve the quality of our concrete products. Learn how specialty admixtures are used to control the formation of efflorescence and produce water repellent block.
After taking this course, learners will understand:
• How plasticizers and densifiers help to reduce production cost and improve product quality
• How accelerators and retarders work and when to use them
• How efflorescence control admixtures help minimize efflorescence
• How integral water repellent admixtures work and how to verify the water repellent performance of architectural CMU
